March 2009 Potluck

The March 16 (non-potluck) Sit Down Dinner, the final one of this season, proved to be a major hit. Over 200 Chicken Cordon Bleu dinners were served, and everyone raved how delicious the meal was! Co-chairs Sheri Rechsteiner and Sandy Ross orchestrated the event with the assistance of many, many volunteers from Blvds 2, 13, and 15. Our cooks Joe Marchetti, Matt Casciano, Chuck Paramore, Wes Rice, Tony Policelli, and Joe's grandson Wesley, prepared our most expensive dinner of the year... Chicken Cordon Bleu, with potatoes and candied carrots, marbled bread and butter, and apple pie and whipped cream dessert. We were packed to capacity! John Rechsteiner called tables, and Wally Helbig said the grace.

The entertainment for this wonderful evening was provided by the talent of the residents of Regency Cove. Bob Wolf emceed the program, which consisted of 10 acts of musicians, singers, dancers, and kazoo players, who enthralled and thoroughly entertained the audience for an hour. Many of the older residents reminisced of the wonderful Talent Shows of the past. It has been many years since a talent event has been programmed, and tonight was a wonderful blending of the old and the new talent in our community today. Life goes on in Regency Cove.

Comedy Hall of Fame

Tony Belmont, president of the National Comedy Hall of Fame, presented the history of comedy after the potluck supper tonight. He told of the stand up comedian who entertained General Washington, in the 17oos. Vaudeville took over in the 1800s, leading up to radio, cinema, and finally television. We were entertained with video clips of Charlie Chaplin, Laurel and Hardy, Abbott and Costello, Senor Wiences, and Amos and Andy.

The winners of a trivia game were given Tshirts and other prizes.

The dinner was pretty awesome too! Over 160 people paid for the sit down chicken dinner.

Western Dance and Chili Dinner

On March 2, 2009 we will celebrate in Western style and dance to the hit tunes of Del and Gary. These guys are well known around the Tampa area, and have been singing together for 3 years. They really get in with the audience when they entertain a crowd. Should be a lot of fun this year.

Board Welcomes New Director

At the December 20, 2008 meeting of the BOD of Regency Cove, the board sadly accepted the resignation of Richard Siddens due to reasons of health. Richard was elected last year to serve the final year of Father Bob's term, which expires in March of 2009. After several board members nominated a replacement, all of the board members were asked to make their choice. A majority of the directors selected Pat Fennessy, a woman who demonstrated her desire to serve on the board by puttting her name on the ballot last March. She will serve on the board until the elections in March, when she will again run for the position, if she so chooses.

Pat served on the Rules and Regs Committee which met weekly since August. That committee just recently wrapped up their revisions, which will go before the board, and then the membership for final approval. Welcome aboard, Patty!

New Pot Luck Vote

At the December 15 Potluck Supper, President Mary Willsey asked the membership for a show of hands to eliminate traditional potluck suppers during the winter months, and have the membership pay $5 each month for a sitdown dinner. Here are the results:

Beginning with the January Dinner, tickets will be sold for each event. Contact an officer to buy tickets.

The 2009 slate of officers was announced. Helen Walker and Alice Disharoon will join the Officers of Club Regency. Mary Willsey will remain as president, Sandy Ross and Alice Disharoon will serve as vice-presidents, Helen Baker and Joyce Healey remain as secretary and assistant, and Judy Webb and Helen Walker will serve as treasurers. Carole Hindman remains as Membership chair, Gail Horvath is the Kitchen Co-ordinator, and Marilyn Cauthorn remains as Cheer. Heres to a happy and productive 2009!

After the business meeting we all enjoyed the Gulf to Bay Choir singing under the direction of Denise Helbig. What a wonder evening of entertainment.
